‘Southland’ Finds a Temporary Home at TNT
Posted on: November 3, 2009No comments yet
TNT announced yesterday that the first season and already filmed episodes of the second will air on the cable network starting January 12. Whether new episodes will be put into production will depend on ratings. I hope the show does better in ratings than it did on it’s original home NBC. I feel NBC really dropped the ball here.

‘Southland’ Maybe On Its Way to TNT

If the deal goes through the former NBC drama could be on its way to TNT to join already successful shows of the same genre such as The Closer and HawthoRNe.
The cable network began conversations with corporate sibling Warner Bros. TV, which produces the cop drama, shortly after “Southland” was abruptly canceled by NBC earlier this month.
Though a deal has not been completed, it now appears likely.
If the pact goes though, it would mark a rare resurrection of a canceled broadcast series on cable, something that couldn’t be worked out for a slew of other shows, including critical darling “Arrested Development,” fan favorite “Moonlight” or veteran “My Name Is Earl.”
“Southland,” executive produced by John Wells, shot six episodes of its second season before being shut down by NBC. Hollywood Reporter
Early this month, NBC made the stupid decision of canceling Southland citing the show having too heavy of a plot for network tv.
Commerical Break:Jada Pinkett Smith Stars in HawthoRNe
Posted on: June 16, 2009No comments yet

She returns to the spotlight in her new show premiering tonight at 9 p.m. on TNT. Her she is in a interview with Essence Magazine.
ESSENCE.COM: We love that your character, Chief Nursing Officer Christina Hawthorne, fights for the underdogs and makes sure that her patients and staff don’t fall by the wayside. How does she mirror Mrs. Smith?
JADA PINKETT SMITH: (Laughs.) Well, I’m definitely more of Mrs. Smith than I am Mrs. Hawthorne, but in my personal fight for the underdog it’s in my blood, my roots, because I myself was an underdog growing up in Baltimore. Thankfully, I saw beyond my circumstances, so I constantly want to encourage every human being to reach for their highest goal if they are willing to take that journey. In that way she and I are a lot alike.
ESSENCE.COM: Now, where do you two stand on opposite sides of the fence?
PINKETT SMITH: She’s married to a White guy and raising a [biracial] daughter, which presents its own set of challenges. Also, I’m a different kind of mother. Christina wants to do everything for her daughter, where as I’ve always believed that children are little adults and, at the end of the day, you have to teach them how to be responsible for their own lives. As parents our job is to take their power and use it in a way that is prolife, not take all of our child’s power to make them do the things we want them to do.
ESSENCE.COM: Your show has perfect timing, especially since one of President Obama’s leading issues is health care reform. Will your show tackle this issue?
PINKETT SMITH: We are definitely going to have some story lines that touch upon the politics of health care next season. However, this season we focus on how nurses interact with one another and how doctors heal and the nurses heal the soul. So there are a couple of issues where we do address the politics of health care and hospitals but it’s something we’ll dive more into in the future.
ESSENCE.COM: You’re a woman who appears to have it all together. Is there ever a time that you’ve lost faith in yourself?
PINKETT SMITH: (Laughs.) Are you kidding me? I’m constantly losing my faith. You never get to a place where you don’t question whether you’re on the right path. I’d be surprised to find anyone whose foundation that hasn’t been shaken in some capacity. Sometimes people don’t want to take the responsibility of winning or losing so they lose focus as a [defense mechanism] which keeps them from doing what they need to do. But to achieve great things you have to stay focused and be clear about what you want. The only way to do that is to prioritize. This way you are extremely clear about what you’re giving up, gaining, and what you will and won’t do.
ESSENCE.COM: Perhaps President Obama and the First Lady have taken some of the pressure off of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who have been deemed as the epitome of the Black family nucleus. How do you think the Obamas have inspired and influenced Black men and women?
PINKETT SMITH: I always hear from people who know us, “That’s you and Will!” And I have to tell them, “No, it’s not just me and Will.” You know Will and I, we try to walk the talk. When you can be what you’re talking about and still work in the community with your fellow men and women and treat them with respect—just that idea alone means that everyone learns from each other. It’s an idea of what the Obamas have done and spread worldwide. This kind of love and partnership doesn’t just happen with one or two couples. That level of unity creates a certain power and it’s not done by President Obama or First Lady Michelle, but together. When it comes to Black love we need to really acknowledge what we can achieve.
ESSENCE.COM: So true. As a mother, wife and strong Black career woman who supports her man, what would you say to those who criticize women like yourself and Michelle Obama for sacrificing some of your own dreams?
PINKETT SMITH: I don’t think people really understand the amount of pressure it is not to allow the foundation of your relationship to crack. The sacrifice that Mrs. Obama has made is not only for her husband, the President, but for us as a country. People look at Obama and yes, he’s the President, but don’t forget that the woman in every household is the glue. Mrs. Obama keeps the mind, body, spirit and household together of America’s President. She is the source for strength and comfort, and sometimes I don’t think people recognize that position. It’s such bullsh– because what she’s doing right now is the hardest and most important thing, so people who make such a criticism have a very limited perspective and a lack of awareness. It doesn’t mean that Mrs. Obama is falling in the background, but simply standing her ground as many of us strong, secure women have done for years.
Jay Leno Says Good Bye To The Tonigh Show
Posted on: May 29, 2009No comments yet

In case you have been living under a rock tonight is Jay Leno’s last night as host of the Tonight Show and besides James Taylor performing, his final guess will be none other than Mr. Conan O’Brien. Believe it or not after 17 years Jay Leno will say good bye to late night tv. Then next week will have former Late Night host Conan O’Brien slipping in to fill the spot.
Although Conan has for years been my favorite late night host then Leno, I never really grasped on to Leno hosting his own prime time show in the fall. I feel that in someway it’s stealing Conan’s very much anticipated thunder. Maybe I will turn around once I see a few episodes, but I don’t see Leno’s new show going past one season.
I will miss Jay Leno hosting but am so excited to see Conan move into the 11:35 slot. Don’t forget to watch tonight!

Still Talking
Posted on: May 1, 2009No comments yet
Where do I begin. Last night I posted how one up and coming actress smartly played the Hollywood game last week by dropping news on how she is not dating musician John Mayer.
This week “Pizza girl” is still talking but she’s now switched to taped interviews. Someone please give her manager a raise! Not only does she talk about how she met Jennifer Aniston last year, she goes on and on and on and on about John Mayer but not without mentioning AGAIN her stint on JONAS and how all of this is just so hard on her and her family. Maybe if she shut up it wouldn’t be.
Publicity Stunts for Dummies Chapter 2 clearly states that one must use Google to find out the background on the celebrity whose name you want to use to prevent possible embarrassment and exposure. If Jancan had read that she would have know that Mayer has never appeared on SNL in a mankini or short shorts, that was Mayercraft I&II. She even went as far as talking about how much Jennifer Aniston liked her eyes and how she possibly flirted with Mayer while Aniston was in the room. Score! This is now on the level of these two idiots using Swine Flu as a photo op. No wonder Mayer seemed thrilled on Twitter earlier this week.
Seriously Jancan. I’m happy that JONAS is probably the biggest acting job you’ve landed, but don’t you know that Mayer or Aniston could end you’re little career before it even starts? I sincerely hope she gets the break she wants so from now on instead of embarrassing herself by using others hard earn fame, she will be able to use her own merit. She also needs to take a step back and reevaluate the meaning of friendship. You don’t sell out your friends!
Jancan is clinging on to these 15 minutes like her career depending on… Oh wait… Just don’t go all Sam Lufti on him!
S.Court Rules OK For FCC To Fine Over Expletives
Posted on: April 30, 2009No comments yet

So the next time a star drops a F bomb on live TV and the network doesn’t catch it in time, Supreme court agrees that networks can be fined by the FCC. This ruling came from Fox bringing the case to court in 2006 stemming from Cher dropping a f bomb in her acceptance speech during the now defunct Billboard Music Awards in 2002.
In its 5-4 decision, the court said it did not find the FCC’s policy on so-called fleeting expletives either “arbitrary or capricious,” dealing a blow to the networks in their efforts to scuttle the policy. But the case brought by Fox to the high court was a narrow challenge on procedural grounds to the manner in which the FCC handled its decision to toughen up its policy on fleeting expletives.
Fox, with the support of ABC, CBS and NBC, argued that the commission did not give enough notice of nor properly explain the reasons for clamping down on fleeting expletives after declining to issue penalties for them in decades past. The issue first arose in 2004, when the FCC sanctioned, but did not fine, NBC for Bono’s use of the phrase “fucking brilliant” during the Golden Globes telecast. (Source)
Duh. Celebrities should have more tact that they are on national television and leave the f bombs and other bad superlatives at home. No, the networks have no control over such things but thanks to Janet Jackson’s unfortunate incident mostly all live broadcasts are time delayed anyway.
Perfect Example of How Hollywood Works
Posted on: April 30, 20091 comment so far
Yes this will be giving this person the exposure she desperately wanted but it’s a perfect example of how Hollywood works and how people would sell their right arm for fame. Let’s start from the beginning.
Upcoming actress and waitress Scheana Marie Jancan, who I assume got tired of waiting tables and waiting on that right script that would catapult her into stardom, decided one day to drop some more notable names to get hers out there. Last Wednesday Star Magazine announced that musician John Mayer has a new girlfriend moving on from actress Jennifer Aniston. In the three days of admitting dropping this story to Star Magazine, Jancan couldn’t help but talk to whoever would listen.
If you were to be one of the fortunates to pick up Star Magazine last week you would have read that not only did Jancan admit to spending time at Mayer’s recording studio home you would have also learned she dropped more famous Aniston’s name saying all of Mayer’s new songs set to appear on his new album out later this year are about Aniston. Juicy.
Interestingly enough Jancan was not only telling tabloids juicy details she was also dropping them on her twitter. While this was happening suddenly everyone comes to find out that Jancan has a stint on the new Disney show JONAS that premieres this Saturday on the network. Blogs also conveniently acquired pictures and video of her on the show. Coincidence? Of course not. Someone got paid overtime for this publicly stunt. Now everyone knows her name. Expect to see her in more stints soon.
Saturday Mayer decided to have a early work out in Santa Monica picking up some paparazzi on the way where he later told them that he didn’t have a girlfriend. Burn.
I did witness for myself how suddenly the JONAS preview that had been airing for a few weeks on Disney Channel has now changed to feature Jancan as the “Pizza girl”. Also Buzz Tv today uncovered that a script to the “Pizza girl” episode is available for download if you can find it as it is hidden on the JONAS show official site. Obviously not that hard to find since Buzz Tv found it.
Was this clever pr from Disney or did they just see a open opportunity for free publicity? Even though Jancan’s stint doesn’t air until May 16th, she got what she wanted and Disney got free publicity out of it. Jancan even went as far as deleting previous tweets about what she told tabloids after all was said and done. Unfortunately while Mayer had to play the Hollywood game and deny it all to paparazzi, this had to be a valuable lesson to him; just because you have a mantel full of Grammys doesn’t mean you can’t get played by up and coming actresses. He’ll live through it but Jancan better watch out, she might actual be the one to end up on his new album.
So where is all the visual aid for this? Not to fear follow the link to see what she worked hard on promoting the past few days and check out some of her now deleted tweets. It’s fun to see how the story from admitting she went to Star to denying she did, to deleting the tweets altogether. Also how on the undeleted tweets she is just so exhausted from having to answer to the press. She’s already knows how to act as if she is famous. She even tried to follow Jennifer Aniston on Twitter. Doesn’t get more Hollywood than that!
